The Portrait House

We are the Faces of CHANGE.

I am excited to announce that I am now a member of The Portrait House.

The Portrait House is on a worldwide fundraising mission to raise money and awareness for Habitat for Humanity. Founded in 2006 by photographers, Justin Marantz and Mary Marantz, The Portrait House relies on a national network of the top photographers in the industry to offer their services in exchange for a direct donation to Habitat.

We hope to connect our communities and our world to the mission that is Habitat for Humanity in such a powerful way, that we can never again turn a blind eye to the epidemic of poverty housing. The goal is to raise $50,000 by this time next year to sponsor a home for a family in need. Beyond that, there is no limit for what we can do together.

To date, Habitat has built over 200,000 homes, providing shelter to over a million people worldwide. Habitat's mission continues. And so does ours.

So book your date now for a charity photoshoot!! Its for a awesome cause and also a tax write off so its truly a win-win.

Amanda K. Trash the Prom Dress Shoot

So this past Sunday, my fiance Maggie and I had the pleasure of photographing Amanda in her prom dress. The dress was absolutely stunning and it looked great on her. So the three of us took our photographing adventures to the West Haven Beach and later to an old abandoned building. (I guess I was all about the beach this past weekend)! Anyways it was absolutely freezing out but Amanda was such a trooper and we really captured some amazing photos of her.

So to start we took it slow and took some pictures of Amanda on one of the park benches. Maggie has been increasingly more involved in our photo sessions and this is actually one of her shots! I love how she has the bench side railing here.
This next shot was also taken by Maggie. Amanda is still on the same bench as the above picture but this time we tried capturing the same picture from a different angle. Amanda looks stunning here, so Marylin Monroe.

Here Amanda was really starting to get cold but she still stuck it out and started climbing on the door of the building.

So its probably important to mention that there was a lot of snow and ice at the beach, probably because it is January and Amanda slipped a couple of times and although i went to go help Amanda get back up Maggie did not miss a beat in capturing each fall, take this one for example. But the picture truly shows how much fun we all had playing in the snow!

At one point it actually got really windy while we were standing at the edge of a cliff over the beach. I just love how the wind blew her dress, and you can see her boots and leggings (she was trying to stay warm to by bundling up under her dress.)

We ended up venturing out onto the ice just off the beach and between the near slips and falls and places that were not really ice but very big puddles (that were freezing cold) we finally got to a place where we could take some pictures safely. Now at this point Amanda was probably freezing even though she did not show it (but i know that i was) but she kept her hands warm in her dress and danced around on the ice as if it was super warm out!!!

We had such a great time at this photo shoot but we were all so glad to get back to the house and huddle in front of our pellet stove, drink some coffee and hot chocolate (Maggie doesn't drink coffee) and get warm!!!

Chris M. Photo Session

So this past saturday a very good friend of mine Chris, decided to come out to West Haven with me and shoot some landscapes at the beach. We had a great time and had a lot of fun editing some of the pictures when we got back to the house. Check out what we came up with.

This first picture is of this seagull that really forgot about the whole going south for the winter thing!

So after a brief chase with the seagull I had to capture our path in the sand!!

Here is a shot of Chris taking a photograph!

And here is a close up of Chris again!

.

This shot was taken by Chris and edited by me.

This shot was taken by Chris and edited by me.

This shot was taken by Chris and edited by me. I just love how the colors came out, and when I look at this I think more of the Caribbean then the west haven beach. :-)

Ellen Werner

Ellen Werner passed away last year, she was loved by many and was my fiances Grandmother. She meant so much to everyone that was blessed to have known her. In the last years of Ellen’s life, she said to me on several occasions, "Don't ever get old." I thought about this for quite some time, watching her struggle with physical difficulties from which she would never quite recover. I decided that this was one piece of advice she would give me in the short time that I was blessed to have known her that I was going to try to ignore. I don't know about you, but I'd be so much less complete as a person if she followed her own advice.

  • If she hadn't gotten old, I wouldn't have seen such a great example of finding new interests and developing new skills. She showed us how we can continue to make a contribution to our families and our communities even through the most trying of time.
  • If she hadn't gotten old, I probably wouldn't have realized the power of prayer or the way God can intervene in your life and change your outlook, the way He so obviously did for her.
  • If she hadn't gotten old, she wouldn't have been around to talk to me and encourage my fiancĂ© all those times to go shopping at the Christmas tree shop, or just go and have fun at the casino.
  • I think all of these qualities were present in her years before I ever met Ellen. But, if she hadn't gotten old, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to see them.

Today we remember her hope, for each of her kids, and her grandkids, and her great-grandchild, her brothers, her nieces and nephews, her friends and her extended family that we would all find happiness in our lives, that we would all continue to grow to be good and loving people. We know that she would not be disappointed in any of us. Ellen would be so proud to see all of us and how much we have grown in only a year. So today please take the time to remember what about Ellen we treasured so much.

In honor of Ellen, on her birthday I would like to dedicate this video to her memory and her family with whom I have come to love and care for deeply.

CARING AND SHARING in 2009

As part of my CARING AND SHARING campaign this year I am having a "lifestyle" change as well, Mind, Body, and Soul. Its time to re-evaluate life and put my ambitions goals and health first, then conquer them.

---So for the run down--

Mind- I will be putting my goals in life forward and doing everything in my power to be happy and healthy in my mind. Air out the dirty laundry, get rid of bad karma. Stop thinking and worrying about what everyone else is doing or saying and DO IT FOR YOU. So time for clean sheets and a fresh start. Who's with me?

Body-Time to take life by the horns and change for the better, eat right, loose some weight (I know we all say it, but I mean it ;) my wedding is in September!!!) and change my appearance. Could be new body appearance, new wardrobe, or whatever as long as it is a positive outlook on life and your body and makes you feel better. Its the old saying you are what you eat right? Join the change.

Soul- This is my favorite one, I have always been a caring person. I believe in doing one good deed a day for a stranger, whether its helping someone across the street or letting them have the closer parking spot. Just anything to meet karma's quota, (I am a big believer in what goes around comes around) there is enough people in the world that have a bad attitude, let's help change that. One small act of kindness can make a world of change.

OK I know by now I sound like a fortune cookie, but seriously think about it, when was the last time some stranger did something nice for you?

I'm going on the LEGO approach, put all these building blocks together and boom, new me or you. Not a new me but a new and improved me ;). Come on wanna join me yet?

Now who wants to join me? this is a serious effort, not a diet or working out (diets don't work)but a complete change in lifestyle. Doing it alone is rough but there is always power in numbers.

Hey even if you don't want to do the whole change I challenge you to do something different, do something you normally would not do.

-give up soda for a week
-let someone cut into traffic
-don't super size your meal
-exercise for a few days a week (even playing wii counts)
-give up your phone for a day (this is a tough I KNOW :( but it is possible)
-pamper your loved one
-take the dog for a walk

get the drift? one change is still a change!

SO WHO'S WITH ME??? email me to join forces @ photos@jasonhenriques.com !!!

Jen and Wendell's Wedding

Just a few more Photos from Jen and Wendell's Wedding...

Maggie is starting to learn to edit and enhance photos as well as shooting along side of me and shes learning quick. Its awesome to do what I love and to now start to do it with the person I love. The best of both worlds, well most of the time hehehe.

Maggie caught Jen acting like her fun self while waiting to become a MRS. From what I hear they had fun waiting around their room all dressed up and no where to go for like 2 hours :)

Maggie was getting her make up done before the wedding and the makeup artist was going on about how awesome her lashes were so I had to get a few close ups and damn they are long.

Here Maggie got Jen in a mix between look at me I'm pretty and oh crap what am I doing, nah I'm just kidding she looked amazing and was in all her glory so much that she made everyone cry even the groomsmen.

Getting mom's approval and I think there is a tear in her eye I know I did.

This was taken at the rehearsal dinner, I gave them a taste of what they are gonna be in for the rest of their lives and I was asked to borrow the new jewelry (hand cuffs) for the honeymoon. ;)
