Lighting the Sky

Saturday we decided to have a shootout, We invited some friends and managed to get a hair stylist Nicole Sciortino and a make-up artist Tiffany Hall-Scarmana Both amazingly talented. So as the girls all got ready me and some of the other photographers scouted out an area to shoot in downtown Shelton. We are always looking for fun new things to do and areas to explore.

We decided to start experimenting with outdoor lighting both during day and night.

We started with this awesome old beat up garage door for a backdrop. There is just something about abandoned building that gets me all excited like a girl on prom night :)

Then believe it or not we just moved one door over to start to get a completely different look and feel.

Just a slight angle makes a world of a difference.

A huge thank you to all who participated

Rockin' Out Something New

As a couple Jay and I feel very strongly that it is important to have a strong foundation when it comes to education. Which is definitely why we are still in school. However, when it comes to a foundation we also feel that in regards to our photography you need to understand the fundamentals and talk to and work with other photographers. By working with other photographers you learn not only to collaborate but it is a great forum to learn what you can from others. I mean people really should take the time to soak up and learn every aspect of what the other photographer does. From how they interact with other professionals, with clients, how they conduct themselves on a shoot. How they manipulate lighting and transition between lenses. Also how they do there post production, what is their final product? What tools and programs do they use? Regardless of where you are in your business you are never to experienced to learn a new thing from your peers.

On that same note, if you want to try a new genre of photography what better way to do it that to go along and shoot with someone who has experience in that area. Since, they are knowledgeable in the area you can truly see how to manipulate everything to get the great shot that the seasoned photographer is getting.

For example, Jay and I have never really shot bands before. The whole concept of shooting in a loud crowded bar with strobes going off and light shows was a bit foreign to us. So when the opportunity arose this past Saturday for Jay to go and shoot with David Apuzzo, at Rose's Cantina in Groton, CT we could not turn it down.
.
The first band up was Kings and Liars and let me tell you what away to start the night. They were absolutely phenomenal and put on a great show. They had a ton of energy and the music was great!

.

The next band up was Lord Fowl, also a good band!

The last and final band of the evening was Gasoline Therapy! They were great and actually one of the band members was David’s brother Anthony who was celebrating his birthday with all of us at the bar! (So again, Happy Birthday Anthony!!!)

One of the awesome singers for Gasoline Therapy

So up until Gasoline Therapy came on Jay was the only one taking pictures and I was just enjoying the music but I was totally feigning for the chance to take some pictures so I grabbed my camera and started getting in on the action as well. Here is one I took of Anthony.

And here is one I took of their new member who really had some awesome facials that I couldn’t resist capturing!

And just one more

.
Thank you so much David for the opportunity to learn from you and practice a new type of photography. The skills we have learned are invaluable and we look forward to shooting with you again.

We also wanted to send a thank you out to the bands that we photographed and if anyone wants to hear some of their music (which you should) and learn more about them make sure to check them out!
