Melissa S. Trash the Dress Shoot

Last Saturday we had the pleasure of doing a trash the dress shoot with Melissa S. We absolutely love TTD shoots since they are such a blast for us and the bride or model. It's a easy way to be Fun, Sexy and Elegant all in one.

We headed up to an old abandoned bowling alley and took advantage of the departed building.

Half of the building was missing but the lanes were still there, the ball returns were filled in with dirt and gravel but make a great leading line.

and the boots with the Wedding dress COME ON, how hot is that?

The sun coming through the huge hole in the ceiling made a awesome cast on Melissa and completely accents her.

We found some construction tape lying on the ground that made a dope accent with the fallen bricks she was propped up on.

We then moved to another location where there was lots of great backgrounds everywhere.

So all in all it was a great time, Melissa was a super trooper especially when there were many people driving by, beeping and honking. It made us all laugh and figured out that doing a shoot like this in the open public on a main road and getting that response was a great ego booster for all of us.

Roy's 50th Birthday party

This past Saturday night our friend Roy celebrated his 50th birthday party with many and family. This was a surprise party that we all set up to have him believe that it was a surprise party for Maggie. Everyone did such a great job Roy even gave money to one of the other guests to purchase Maggie a gift card to someplace. Our kind friend did get his money back though :).

Here is Maggie The "Birthday Girl" dancing her pants off.

Maggie's true Birthday is the 15th of March. So make sure to send her some birthday love ;)

Katie is grabbing up on some JH Love, hahaha
Here is the Birthday boy himself with dear mom.

Ok so besides just being a birthday party it was also a huge rock band challenge too, the DJ brought his xbox and a huge projector where everyone had a blast.
Here is Joe playing rock band and Nikki being a groupie.
Katelyn rocking out, let me tell you this girl can jam like a true rock star, She was kicking butt on expert.
Joe being a crazy, rock band rock star, he loves him some guitar. ;)
Maggie giving some "blue steel" while Katie was just Katie...

All in all it was a fun and long night. Lots of cake smashing too, I don't know if anyone actually ate any cake because so many people were smashing it in to Roy's face at first. Then it turn into a all out cake fight, people had cake on their faces, chests, down shirts and I'll stop there. I'll post a few censored photos of this later.
Good night and good times...

Saturday Shooting Takes on compo beach

On Saturday February 28, 2009 we took our shooting adventures to Compo Beach in Westport, CT. Joining us this week was Chris, Mikey, Deborah, and Kori. What we thought was particularly interesting was that back in West Haven we had bright blue skies and fairly warm weather considering it was February, however as soon as we got in to Westport it was clear that we did not wear enough layers, because it was freezing.

One of the first places we stopped to warm up and get ready for the shoot was a little gazebo type thing. It had some fabulous architecture, the beams on the ceiling were very cool and the arch ways and window made for some great pictures.

Here is Kori, taking some pictures of us running around in the Gazebo

While we were playing in the Gazebo we all took turns posing in the arch ways I think Kori looks amazing!

I love how Jay looks here

I laid on the ground to get this shot and I think it came out really well!

Of course there were some shenanigans because we do like to have fun on these trips so Mikey and Chris decided that they were gymnasts and proceeded to run, jump, and flip over and off anything they found. First it was the fencing that let patrons of the beach know where the dog area was.

Then we went over to the rocks and had a ton of fun climbing the rocks, and jumping off of them as well as playing in the sand.

Chris definitly had me worried all I could think of was that we did not have an ambulance standing by

I love this shot and the way you see his shadow in the sun

Leap frog is not just for children anymore well maybe it still is. Anyways Mikey and Chris were all about Leapfrog on Saturday

Here is Debbie taking a few shots of the boys jumping off the rocks...

Fairfield Hills part 2

You probably thought we were done with the posts from Fairfield Hills, well we were not!! Hehehe, Maggie has been working on a few pictures so we had to add them to the blog for you to all see.
For some reason Maggie was freaking out about being at Fairfield Hills so she decided to wander off on her own (again this is how horror movies start, you never leave the group)! Anyways when we looked at her shots later, I thought it was hysterical that most of her pictures were the warning signs from around the property. I wonder if she was trying to tell us something!

There was a ton of construction around the premises as we said in the last post, but that did not keep the curious boys far back they walked right up to see what was going on, and actually there was one of the tunnels behind that fence that they were in the process of closing up

This is a shot of me, that Maggie captured during our fun times near the trucks!

We got a little up close and personal with the trucks, because they were so cool!

Here is Chris, playing with the trucks! and yes he is shooting with a Nikon!!

This was such a creative shot that Maggie took I thought she did a fabulous job with this shot! And here we are minus Maggie, doing our signature "Blue Steel" poses!!!

Some more bodouir portraits

After looking through the pictures again I found some of Miss. D. that just had to be posted because she looked absolutely fabulous.
I just love how she looks laying in the hall way

Meet Miss. E, she was another girl that we shot that day and I have to say I absolutely loved the way the red shoes looked!!

Gotta love some garter action
This is one of my fave, pictures of Miss. E.!
She had some of the coolest stockings so we had to catch a few shots of the stockings!
We had so much fun posing this shot, between the hat and the switch from black to red heels, Miss. E., really started to get into the shoot and really have fun!

Shooting Adventure Crew PT.2 Fairfeild Hills

If you are a native of Connecticut, you have probably heard of the infamous Fairfield Hills in Newtown, CT. If you have not, let me give you a little bit of background Fairfield Hills was a State Hospital that was created due to overcrowding at the other state hospitals in the early 1930s. The hospital opened and received its first patients from Connecticut Valley Hospital in June 1931. There were initially less than 500 patients and only 3 doctors but with in the next 30 years the facility housed more than 4,000 patients, 20 doctors, 50 nurses, and 100 assorted other employees.

Due to deinstitutionalization in the 1960s and 1970s, there was less of a need for hospitals like Fairfield Hills. With the high cost of running underused hospitals, state hospitals around the country shut their doors and in 1995, Gov. Rowland closed Fairfield Hills and all patients were moved to CT Valley Hospital located in Middletown.

This sign was at one of the buildings with the arrow pointing to a basement like entrace.

This was inside the entrace.....

Now, Fairfield Hills gained some hype through Hollywood

The feature film Sleepers used the hospital as a setting. Actors on location included Robert De Niro, Brad Pitt and Kevin Bacon. Several scenes used local boys as extras. Actually Mikey who came to shoot with us actually remembered the whole casting process that took place while he was in high school. He was saying that Masuk and Trumbull High were where some of the extras for the film came from. So besides the now stereotypical idea that Fairfield Hills was a place for the mentally disturbed, in 2000 due to an episode of MTV's Fear, that was shot at Fairfield Hills. Many people began to think that the site was now haunted. In addition to the ideas that since the facility was closed in 1995 the facility has been the object of several paranormal investigations, and allegations that the buildings are haunted. And because several former patients have claimed that treatment there was very harsh, cruel, and abusive. The Town of Newtown denies the site is haunted, and has since closed off the facility to all film crews and even though the grounds are open to the public, it is only open during the day light and there are plenty of nosey security guards.

This is another inside shot...

Now besides the fact that this area already was appealing because of the cool history, and the ghost stories architecturally it is also a pretty cool place. Anyways after learning all of this super cool information Jason and I along with our friends Chris and Mikey decided we had to take our Saturday shooting adventures to this awesome place. So here are some of the pictures that we captured of our days experiences.

All the institutional buildings were of a modified colonial style, built of red brick and attractively accented with beautiful lights and large clocks. There were also a lot of copper, and marble finishing’s as well. Constructed largely in the 1930s, the buildings ranged in size from 2 to 3 stories, and every building is fireproof throughout which also is very interesting.

While walking around the Fairfield Hills Campus taking pictures we were stopped by a man in a car who wanted to know if we knew about the history of the facility. Of course we all said yes and then almost instantaneously the guy pulled his car off the road, got out and approached us. (WEIRD, yea we know) The guy gets to talking about the history of all the buildings and then he tells us he knows all of this because he was a patient there. Well at this point Chris excuses himself to go find a bathroom and because he thought the guy was a little tweaked. (And we know leaving the group is a total way a horror movie starts). Then Jason, my fiancĂ© also decides he is going to go and wander and leave Mikey and I with the weird guy. Needless to say the guy was a talker and then Mikey and I said our good byes gave the guy our names. (yes our real names, I know “stranger danger” I already got yelled at lol)

So, we continue on with our journey and low and behold our new friend finds us at another building. And he proceeds to tell us he knew where we were because one of the painters let him in to the building and he was able to see us taking pictures of the building with the crow on top from inside. (side note: it was a Saturday and there was no workers on the property at all!) Anyways he left us again and said he was going to go and walk in to one of the other buildings that he spent some time in as a child to. It was all very, very weird.

All of the patient buildings were connected by a series of tunnels. These tunnels were mostly used to move large groups of patients between the buildings, especially during the winter months and on bad weather days. Doctors, workers also used the tunnels, and even corpses were also moved between hospital buildings by them.

They boys decided they would approach the security guard and ask him a little bit about the property and we found out that there was some construction being done on Bridgeport Hall. The town of Newtown, was in the process of renovating the building to be the new town hall. So we took the opportunity to take pictures of some of the awesome construction vehicles that were there.

All in all it was such an awesome photo experience that I can not wait to see what we do next week!!
