May Shoot Out

This past Sunday, Jay and I had the privilege to work with some of our talented friends to pull off our May Shoot Out! We along with some of our friends have been trying to put these together once a month because we find it to be a truly amazing experience to work with other photographers who have as much passion about what they do as we do.

So this month we were able to shoot at a location not to far from our house that truly was awesome. There were so many different backgrounds to choose from to compose your image. What was cool about what we did this month as opposed to last month was we broke up into pairs and we each worked with a model and lighting and then we would switch. This gave the models a lot of diversity for their portfolios and all of us the photographers the experience of seeing how we all can see the same building or property but yet capture a completely unique image. So make sure you check out what the other photographers captured Sunday too!!!
Something that we have also been doing, mainly because we have fun doing it is recording the randomness that goes on while we are shooting. So make sure you check out this shoot outs randomness too!!

Now for some of what we captured!!!!

I guess we will start with my shots first here is Lauren Marie working it!!!

Loved the angle on this one

Totally loved this dandelion shot

So I'm not really sure why this backhoe was here but the bright yellow color was awsome and it worked with the outfit

Loved the light post and how Alexa posed here.... Total fabulosity!!!

I was so excited when Alexa was willing to climb up on the tree stumps for a little something different and I was stoked on how the pictures turned out!

Here are a few of Jay’s capture!!!!

I never would have thought to use this area the way David and Jay did and they both totally rocked it!!!

Alexa was totally working it!!!

Love how he used the doorway here

Seriously total hotness!!!

Again thanks to all that participated I know Jay and I really had an awesome time and hope we can all get together again in June!

Antique Car Shoot

This past Saturday Jason and I had the great opportunity to work with a very talented team of individuals. The idea started when Jay had to come up with a final project for his photography class. He decided he would like to get some antique cars together and some pinup style models and collaborate the two together with some of our fabulous personalities to create some awesome pictures.

I know I am one that loves to know how some of these pictures came to be. So here is a behind the scenes look of what went on this past Saturday hope you enjoy!

Well now that you have seen what happened behind the scenes here is a look at some of our final products.

Our first model up was Kris who totally embodied the pin up look!!!

What was even cooler was that she also is a hair stylist and makeup artist and was able to stand in when one of our stylists couldn’t make it!!!! But look at her she just rocks!!

Next girl up was the fantastic Farrah! We went with a bit of a different look here with the jeans but I love how she totally rocked it!

In the words of Jay’s Dad, “Tell me this doesn’t look like an ad for Snap On!”

Then we had Michaela who totally rocked the glam look!

And of course we had to play with the trunk on the car be sure to check out our fan page on facebook to see more of these!!

We also had the great pleasure of working with Gabrielle who again brought a different spin on the shoot!

.

Then we had Cheyenne who was a ton of fun to shoot and had a great personality!

Jay’s fave pose

Then last but certainly not least we had Vikki!!! Who had ever modeled before but was willing to try anything and have fun! Which of course Jay and I love about people!!

Vikki was actually able to stay a bit later after the rain had stopped to take some picture
up on the roof of the parking garage and man oh man was I glad that she could stay! This picture came out so friggin awesome!

(Definitely check him out if you need a limo for anything. He actually provided the limo’s for our wedding back in September)

Wonderland of Hair Show

On April 14th Jay and I packed up our gear early in the morning and headed to the North Haven Academy Paul Mitchell Partner School for an awesome shoot. We were going to be taking pictures for the Wonderland of Hair show!!! What what!! I was super excited and could not wait for what this new experience held in store for us.
On this shoot we tried to get a lot of different things we wanted behind the scenes pictures, we wanted head shots for the stylists portfolios, we wanted some fun artistic stuff, some fun cast pictures and of course photos of the show! Between Jay and I, we were really able to get a lot of great shots. Here is a sampling of what we got hope you enjoy!!!!

Lighting the Sky

Saturday we decided to have a shootout, We invited some friends and managed to get a hair stylist Nicole Sciortino and a make-up artist Tiffany Hall-Scarmana Both amazingly talented. So as the girls all got ready me and some of the other photographers scouted out an area to shoot in downtown Shelton. We are always looking for fun new things to do and areas to explore.

We decided to start experimenting with outdoor lighting both during day and night.

We started with this awesome old beat up garage door for a backdrop. There is just something about abandoned building that gets me all excited like a girl on prom night :)

Then believe it or not we just moved one door over to start to get a completely different look and feel.

Just a slight angle makes a world of a difference.

A huge thank you to all who participated

Rockin' Out Something New

As a couple Jay and I feel very strongly that it is important to have a strong foundation when it comes to education. Which is definitely why we are still in school. However, when it comes to a foundation we also feel that in regards to our photography you need to understand the fundamentals and talk to and work with other photographers. By working with other photographers you learn not only to collaborate but it is a great forum to learn what you can from others. I mean people really should take the time to soak up and learn every aspect of what the other photographer does. From how they interact with other professionals, with clients, how they conduct themselves on a shoot. How they manipulate lighting and transition between lenses. Also how they do there post production, what is their final product? What tools and programs do they use? Regardless of where you are in your business you are never to experienced to learn a new thing from your peers.

On that same note, if you want to try a new genre of photography what better way to do it that to go along and shoot with someone who has experience in that area. Since, they are knowledgeable in the area you can truly see how to manipulate everything to get the great shot that the seasoned photographer is getting.

For example, Jay and I have never really shot bands before. The whole concept of shooting in a loud crowded bar with strobes going off and light shows was a bit foreign to us. So when the opportunity arose this past Saturday for Jay to go and shoot with David Apuzzo, at Rose's Cantina in Groton, CT we could not turn it down.
.
The first band up was Kings and Liars and let me tell you what away to start the night. They were absolutely phenomenal and put on a great show. They had a ton of energy and the music was great!

.

The next band up was Lord Fowl, also a good band!

.

.

.

.

The last and final band of the evening was Gasoline Therapy! They were great and actually one of the band members was David’s brother Anthony who was celebrating his birthday with all of us at the bar! (So again, Happy Birthday Anthony!!!)

One of the awesome singers for Gasoline Therapy

So up until Gasoline Therapy came on Jay was the only one taking pictures and I was just enjoying the music but I was totally feigning for the chance to take some pictures so I grabbed my camera and started getting in on the action as well. Here is one I took of Anthony.

And here is one I took of their new member who really had some awesome facials that I couldn’t resist capturing!

And just one more

.
Thank you so much David for the opportunity to learn from you and practice a new type of photography. The skills we have learned are invaluable and we look forward to shooting with you again.

We also wanted to send a thank you out to the bands that we photographed and if anyone wants to hear some of their music (which you should) and learn more about them make sure to check them out!
